Come together with fellow survivors, caregivers, and friends for an afternoon of connection, calm, and community. Attend all of the sessions, or drop in and out at your leisure. This event is for everyone in our community, age 18+.

Experience the grounding power of a drum circle led by Andrew Ecker of Drumming Sounds, followed by lunch and time to socialize. Then join us for a wellness session and guided meditation designed to restore balance and peace.

This in-person fall gathering is a chance to relax, reflect, and celebrate resilience in every beat.

Join Andrew Ecker and Monica Patton of Drumming Sounds for a powerful and uplifting community drum circle designed especially for individuals living with traumatic brain injury, their caregivers, and loved ones.

Through rhythm, sound, and connection, we’ll explore how group drumming can support healing, relaxation, and joy. No musical experience is required — every heartbeat has rhythm! Together we’ll create a safe and supportive space where everyone can participate, express themselves, and feel the positive energy of community.

Strategies and Tools for a Vibrant Life with Julie Rake

In this session, Julie Rake, MSPAS, PA-C, will describe how daily stressors and trauma can impact our body and brain. She will reveal various ways that we can begin to heal, repair, revitalize, and maximize our health. She will also provide a “toolkit” full of tidbits and tips to help us increase our sense of clarity, joy, and peace of mind.

In this session, Julie Rake, MSPAS, PA-C, will describe some of the healing modalities discussed in her first session, “The Trauma Toolkit.” Participants will be led through a variety of experiential healing and calming segments. Participants will also leave with a clear understanding of how to begin their own meditation, mindfulness, or breath-work practices at home.

Julie Rake has been practicing medicine as a PA for over 20 years. After practicing family medicine for 15 years, she attended the Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. Since 2015, she has practiced Integrative Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona. Julie’s current practice focuses on integrative mental health care. Her specialty lies in helping to regulate the stressed nervous system of those with trauma and PTSD. She is partnered with “Redefine Wellness and Treatment,” a cutting-edge holistic healing center offering PHP, IOP, retreats, and individual wellness services.

Julie is currently a director for “Alter of Earth,” a Scottish-based, non-profit organization providing nature-based mental wellness and trauma recovery programs. From 2016 to 2023, she was a board member and chair (three years) for the Brain Injury Alliance of Arizona. From 2015 to 2020, she was a provider for the SPARTA Project, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help heal the moral and spiritual wounds of our warfighters, veterans, and first responders. Julie currently teaches modules on PTSD for East Valley police and fire departments for their “Crisis Intervention Team” (CIT) cohorts on a roving basis.

Julie is a speaker, poet, and writer, and is firmly committed to serving her patients and her community.

Andrew Ecker and Monica Patton, co-founders of Drumming Sounds, have dedicated over 25 years to facilitating rhythm-based wellness programs that support healing, connection, and community. Together, they have led more than 5,000 drumming and sound-based experiences across hospitals, behavioral health programs, memory care communities, treatment centers, and national conferences.

Andrew, author of The Sacred 7, is a speaker and recovery coach whose work bridges ancient wisdom and modern science through the Drumming Sounds Protocol—an evidence-based framework designed to regulate the nervous system and enhance emotional well-being through rhythm and sound.

Monica is a certified HealthRHYTHMS facilitator, Reiki Master, and sound healer whose expertise lies in creating safe, restorative spaces that foster mindfulness and connection. Her use of singing bowls, frame drums, and guided breathwork invites participants to experience profound relaxation and renewal.
