Camp Brain is one of only two overnight camps in North America specifically designed for adult survivors of all types of brain injury. Located in the cool pines of Northern Arizona, Camp Brain is a social and recreational respite for those who have had a life-changing accident, illness, or brain injury. This unique opportunity allows campers to interact with nature, enjoy increased independence, and make lifelong friendships.

Accommodations include group cabins with beds, meals, and activities. volunteers at camp and are able to gain real world experience assisting campers and facilitating recreation and social activities appropriate for those with cognitive challenges.

Camper Information

Application for campers to apply to be part of Camp Brain will open in April. Camp Brain is for adult survivors of all types of brain injury or brain trauma, age 18+. The cost for all four days is $350; payment is due June 1, 2024. Each camper must be able to perform their activities of daily living or bring a caregiver with them.

CAMPER PRE-APPLICATION
Each person attending (caregiver and camper) will need to complete their own application!!

This is a pre-application for, Camp Brain, 2024.

The cost of camp is $350 to attend and will need to be paid in full by June 1, 2024. There is no additional fee for caregivers to attend. Please mail your payment to BIAAZ, 5025 East Washington, Suite 106, Phoenix, Arizona 85034 —OR— call 602-508-8024 to make a credit card payment.

REQUIREMENTS — participants must be able to independently do the following, or bring a caregiver to assist:

  • Independent in toileting and personal care as well as be able to move around independently or with a scooter/walker/electric wheelchair.

  • Participants must be able to take medication without help or reminders, or bring a caregiver to assist them.

  • The cost of $350 is due June 1 for all campers.

  • Transportation is not available at this time.  Campers will need to transport themselves to and from the camp site in Payson.


ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY

EVERY APPLICANT MUST UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT THE ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY—The Brain Injury Alliance of Arizona and our host site for camp have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for alcohol or drugs being brought to or consumed at Camp Brain. Those who violate this policy will be asked to leave immediately, will never be allowed to return, and will not have any fees or costs associated with camp refunded.
*Limited transportation is only available on a first come/ first serve basis and willfill up. Everyone will need to fill out a transportation wavier with their full application. DO NOT ASSUME YOU HAVE TRANSPORTATION UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED.

CAREGIVER

Volunteers Needed

Camp Brain relies on adult professionals from our neuro community who understand brain injury. The ideal volunteer is involved daily in a profession that puts them in direct contact with those who have been impacted by brain injury. Camp volunteers are physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers, and teachers.
