Unmasking Brain Injury

About the Exhibit

“The mission of Unmasking Brain Injury is to promote awareness of the prevalence of brain injury; to give survivors a voice and the means to educate others of what it’s like to live with a brain injury; to show others that persons living with a disability due to their brain injury are like anyone else, deserving of dignity, respect, compassion and the opportunity to prove their value as citizens in their respective communities.” — unmaskingbraininjury.org

With the help of our Survivor Engagement Coordinator, Laura Johnson, BIAAZ has offered participation in this national program for several years. The result is over 400 masks created by survivors of brain injury and their family and friends. We have proudly exhibited these masks and stories at facilities throughout Arizona. Now we are excited to bring you the opportunity to see them all in one place whenever you want.

We hope you take your time through this inclusive exhibit. Many rooms have a theme but as you may have heard, “if you’ve seen one brain injury, then you’ve seen just one brain injury.” Every person’s story and experience are unique, as is each of the masks you are about to view.

To participate in the project, check our calendar for upcoming events to attend, or use the MASK REQUEST FORM below to request your own mask kit which can be mailed to you.

If you are part of an organization who would be interested in having us visit your facility and host an “Unmasking Day” with your clients, patients, or residents who have survived brain injury, please email us at info@biaaz.org and a staff member will work to schedule an event at your location.
